Financial Freedom

Financial freedom can mean many different things to many different people. It"s a term which has been bandied about quite frequently, with a lot of promises being made. It is indeed a goal well worth aspiring to, however, achieving that goal will demand a good bit of effort and discipline. There will be decisions to be made and many forks in the road. There are some very basic things which must be accomplished along the way, and insurance products can be useful tools.

Create and maintain a steady income stream through wages and or business endeavors. Sometimes a combination of the two will be required.

Control and eliminate debt. Especially consumer debt. Try to limit credit purchases to large items. Pay down mortgages as rapidly as possible. Not only can the interest savings be diverted to your personal retirement accounts, but real estate equity is a valuable part of your portfolio.

Accumulate savings. Establish sufficient savings in easily accessible accounts to deal with emergencies and tide you over in lean times.

Don't be distracted by set-backs. You can usually get back on track if you keep your eye on the prize.

Conserve and grow any inheritance. Too often folks will spend inherited money quickly. Give careful consideration to how you deal with inherited money. Remember, someone worked long and hard and planned carefully for you to receive that inheritance, treat it with respect. Inheritances can give you a real "leg-up" or be gone in a flash.

Establish an "Income Benchmark". This will be an amount of money sufficient to provide a livable income without depleting itself during your expected lifetime.

Create a legacy for your heirs, not just a financial inheritance, but try to impart the wisdom and knowledge you have gained on your journey to your heirs.

Remember there are no magic bullets or hidden secrets to achieving financial freedom. It takes diligent hard work, tenacity and perseverance, planning and perhaps just a little good luck, but it can be done.
